It’s the first gorilla birth ever at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. So cute!

Hi, cutie! 🐒 Welcome sweet angel and congrats mama!! ❤️🥰

Momma looks so happy…!♥️

So incredibly beautiful and precious. 🐒🐒

A western lowland gorilla gave birth to a male last month at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, a first in the zoo’s 139-year history.

The zoo announced male was born on Oct. 26 to mom, Nneka, 23, and dad, Mokolo, 34. The zoo also announced a long-term partnership with CrossCountry Mortgage that will include an opportunity for the public to name the infant gorilla.

Newborn gorillas weigh about 3 pounds at birth and usually are in almost constant contact with their mother for the first six months. Infants nurse for about three years.

Did not show appropriate maternal care for her infant. Fredrika, 47, the eldest female gorilla at the zoo who has raised four infants, has taken over maternal care. Fredrika has been bringing the newborn to be bottle fed by zoo officials.

We’re thrilled to announce the birth of this gorilla, the first in our history at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo!
