The rumors of a Newsom presidential run just got supercharged…
“It’s not what happens to us, it’s how we respond to it. And our opportunity presents itself anew. In 18 months, you have the power to end Donald Trump’s presidency,” Newsom said, causing the room to explode into applause.
The governor is spot on. If Democrats seize back control of Congress, Trump’s agenda will grind to a complete stop. Not only that, but we’ll have the power to launch investigations into his rampant corruption.
Newsom slammed Trump over the first “alarming six months” of his second presidential term during his trip. It’s worth noting that South Carolina is a crucial early primary state.
“We’ll have to deal with the tweets, we’ll have to deal with the attacks and the bullying. But the legislative agenda is effectively over,” said Newsom. “You have that power in these midterms.”
The governor has carved out a place for himself as Trump’s arch-nemesis in recent months by bravely standing up to his fascist ICE crackdowns and his assaults on clean energy initiatives.
“Donald Trump decided to send hundreds and hundreds of military troops into the park, into the playground, in the middle of the day, where kids this old were at summer camp,” said Newsom.
“Not one arrest was made. But what he was doing – he wanted to make a point. Cruelty is the point. Cruelty is the point,” he added.”
He stated that California is “the most un-Trump state” and touted his relentless efforts to support the Democratic presidential ticket this past election cycle. At the same time, he admitted that it was “not so easy” being a Biden surrogate after the now-infamous June 2024 debate.
“I say this with love in my heart – with love in my heart – but love for my party and love for my country,” Newsom said of his admission.
Not done there, he attacked Trump over the tragic flash flooding in Texas which has claimed over 100 lives so far. Trump has come under fire for slashing the funding of the National Weather Service earlier this year, resulting in roughly 560 workers losing their jobs.
“Do you remember his response to the disaster in California? He blamed every single person – not a peep of blame in Texas,” said Newsom.
The governor also took aim at Fox News, a crucial piece of the Republican propaganda machine that has warped that minds of a vast swath of the American population, resulting in a con man seizing the White House not once, but twice.
“Lies. Myths. And misrepresentations. You think I’m lying? Take a look at what I did last week – I sued Fox News,” said Newsom.
Attendees at Newsom’s event were palpably excited about the possibility of a 2028 run.
“I came to see the next president of the United States, who should really be the current president, if we are being honest,” said supporter Samantha Sherman.
“I knew people described him as a potential front-runner. Now I see why,” said local man Ken Stroman. “I don’t know if he will be the nominee, but if he is, I could support him.”
“The way Trump has treated California, we get that. Poor Black people in the South, that is how we are treated. He sees that,” he added.
What do you think? Should Gavin Newsom run for president and completely undo Donald Trump’s legacy?
