Elon Musk eyes South Africa for next Starlink base!

Elon Musk may be coming home but with rockets.

Reports suggest that the South African-born billionaire is actively exploring the use of the Denel Overberg Test Range, located near Arniston, outside Cape Town, as a new launch site for SpaceX missions and Starlink satellites.

Why South Africa? The Overberg site offers strategic advantages for polar orbit launches, making it an ideal gateway to expand Starlink’s broadband reach, especially in underserved regions across Africa and the Southern Hemisphere.

This move could mark SpaceX’s first operational foothold in Africa — and potentially position South Africa as a rising space hub. The expansion would also support Musk’s broader mission of making high-speed internet globally accessible, particularly in areas where connectivity has long been a challenge.

If approved, it could bring new jobs, infrastructure, and high-tech investment to the region — along with a boost to Africa’s presence in space exploration.
