Congratulations to Mom and Dad! Welcome to the world, little one!

The Houston Zoo is celebrating the first birth of a northern white-cheeked gibbon at the wildlife park. On May 30, first-time parents Ting and Max welcomed their yet-to-be-named baby boy. The newborn is currently bonding with his mother as the animal care team keeps a close watch on the pair. The zookeepers in charge of caring for the gibbons will have the honor of naming the newest addition.

Northern white-cheeked gibbons are native to the evergreen and semi-evergreen forests of southeast Asia, Vietnam, and southern China, according to National Geographic. The apes are typically born a cream color but gradually turn darker as they age. At around the age of two, gibbons will develop two large patches of white fur on their cheeks that resemble sideburns. While males remain black, females tend to range from reddish to brown and even light cream and beige.

The newborn ape is just the latest birth at the Houston Zoo.

Congratulations to the mother and father!!Ting and Max – Welcome on your new arrival 🐒🎈🎊🎉😊
